Icelandic National Day is an annual holiday in Iceland which commemorates the foundation of The Republic of Iceland on 17 June 1944 and its independence from Danish rule. The date was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson, a major figure of Icelandic culture and the leader of the 19th century Icelandic independence movement.
This day I began from visit in National Museum of Iceland - at 12:00 it was the opportunity to visit museum with polish guide.

Currently, icelandic flag is a blue rectangle with two superimposed crosses: white and red.
Blue and white are the traditional colors of Iceland, especially the blue colour is considered by Iceland's national color. Matthias Thordarson, who designed the flag pattern, explained that blue colour is the relation with the mountains of Iceland, and the white of the snow covering them. Red alluded to the fire emanating from the interior of a number of active volcanoes on the island.
The addition of the red cross highlight had engaged in Iceland from Norway, from where the first medieval settlers arrived to Iceland. Also the icelandic people feels most connected culturally with Norway.
